How Donating an Organ or Tissue Can Save One’s Life

Many people in this world aren’t aware of tissue and organ donation. Many people possess the wrong idea about this process. Turning into an organ donor has become a severe decision, and so, you’re required to know all about it before deciding to turn into a donor. The choice depends on you, but it’s vital to let your family know about it. However, firstly, you must know what it means by donating an organ or a tissue. An organ transplant comprises removing an organ or tissue from a patient who is known as a donor and transplanting into the other patient, who is known as the recipient.

People who agree for tissue recovery means they have consented to it. Most times, organ donations come from people who aren’t alive any longer. However, these people give their consent before it. Again, sometimes, a family member gives consent for them becoming a donor. Though the majority of donors turn out to be dead, a person can still donate when he is alive. Moreover, donation means you can donate stem cells, blood, platelets, and sometimes, even your kidney.

The options for organ donation

Many people aren’t aware what kind of organs they can donate. There are many life-saving organs, such as the heart, lungs, kidney, intestines, liver, and pancreas that you can donate. At times, to repair bones and joints, other tissues, like ligaments, tendons, and tissues are also used. However, for the need of donation, every organ is ideal. Some other organs which you can donate are heart valves, skin, and the corneas. It’s tough to locate healthy organs, and so, the only sources remain are from people who have got themselves registered in the form of organ donors.

The options

At times, the wait time for organ donation becomes too long. Also, so, in place of sitting, waiting and becoming sicker, patients turn to their friends or family for help. This process is known as a living donation. A donor’s whole kidneys are viewed as the most commonly donated organ through living donation. Recently, a portion of the lungs and liver too are donated this way. The most important thing for making an organ transplant successful is an ideal match. Donated organs are matched for different criteria, like the immune status, tissue and blood type. Other factors, like a medical emergency are also taken into consideration.

When people opt for tissue recovery or organ donation, the only confinement that stops them from donating is detection of cancer or HIV or any disease-causing bacteria. Only under these conditions, an organ or tissue donation is exempted. There is always a deficiency or organs needed for transplant, and so, the demand remains high. So, this is the reason voluntary organ donation has become highly important. However, the good news is there isn’t any age limit for donation, and people view it as a noble deed as it can provide a person a new lease of life.
